Using dry shampoo How to use dry shampoo

So, it's has come a long way since the days of using talcum powder on our hair as a way to extend between washes. But how should we use dry shampoo?

  1. Use dry shampoo to extend your hair between washes

The top use of dry shampoo right here. The only problem that I have found with this, is that many brands will leave a white residue which you're supposed to rub or brush into the hair. This leaves it feeling icky and like it needs a wash again. Corn starch appears to be the main culprit. There's a great article on ingredients here. What to do: Spray it from a distance onto the roots of your hair and brush through. Don't forget the crown of the head.

  1. Tame your brows.

Dry shampoo rubbed from your fingers onto your brows can add shape and help them stay in place. What to do: Spray a bit onto your fingers and then rub into your brows in the required position.

  1. Use for an updo.

Years ago I used to use hairspray when doing an updo in the mistaken belief that it would hold better. Yeah, it just wrecked my hair! A much smarter thing to use is dry shampoo. What to do: Spray liberally before styling in order to get better grip for your hairstyle. It has the added bonus that it should brush out pretty easily too.

  1. For volume.

Forget the clumpy powders that make your hair literally stand on end from your scalp. Dry shampoo can do the same thing and it won't make your hair feel awful. What to do: Spray some on a section of root hair that you're going to backcomb and it will provide a ton more volume that backcombing alone.

  1. On your hairgrips.

If you have fine hair like me, then freshly-washed hair can be a nightmare to secure in any style with hair grips. Dry shampoo to the rescue! What to do: Spray a little bit on your hair clips before putting them in your hair. They should provide more grip for your style.

6. On sweaty feet.

This might be something you've not considered, but this can be excellent on sweaty feet! It will absorb the sweat and also deodorize your feet and footwear! What to do: Simply spray liberally over your feet and inside your shoes to refresh!

Finally…

Make sure you check the ingredients of your product! You need one without butane and one that is not flammable for the best health of your hair. Check out my favourite here.
